According to Whitaker, Ramsey & Smith (2012), the same story can have different audiences, angles and messages. This has become evident in a particular league statement, a news story and a press conference, where the same underlining message was that the NRL have taken control over the Gold Coast Titans.
Gold Coast Titans

The second piece was a news story by the Gold Coast Bulletin (2015) and talked more in depth about what happened to the Gold Coast Titans. Compared to the first piece, this piece explained the reason why the NRL took over the club, which revolved around bankruptcy. This story went into depth about the losses and debts the club owes. Not only would fans be the audience of this piece, but also people who might have financially invested in the club on the stock market and so on.
The last piece was a press conference by the ABC (2015) who went into great detail about the event. The speaker occurred to be very personal and expressed his own emotions into the conference, but still managed to get the facts out there and explain to the fans what the issues were and what has been resolved.
Overall, all three pieces explain the same story, however some are more in depth than others and are presented in a more positive light. It's very interesting to explore the different media landscapes and to see how different they are from one another. So far, I feel very new to the media world, but by the end of this term, I am hoping I can somewhat become an expert on media writing.

I'm very impressed with the analysis of the NRL stories, with great evidence to the different angled approach. However more focus on the audience the articles directed towards could of been more informative. Great input of images and brilliant reference list however.
ReplyDeleteHey Yas,
ReplyDeleteYou have completed a wonderful first post. It is clear that you have put time and effort into the writing and editing of the post. Just check the in-text reference for your image, I am lead to believe that there is no need for a comma in between the author and date. Overall, you have done a wonderful job and you have completed the first task to the best of your ability. :)
I really like the amount of detail you go into in your analysis of the different news stories. However, you might want to focus a bit more on how the audience is effected by each piece. Overall I really like the format in which you have set up you blog as it looks really net and professional.
